Southern Girls....Its that time of year again...flip flops and pearls...

^{Last Spring I shared a little something the Lord laid on my heart near and dear to every Southern Girls heart.... a little Spring Time Tradition and the simple way the Lord drew me to think of Him .....through a T-shirt, Flip-Flops and Pearls.... He reminded me of a couple of verses in Mathew 13...}

⁴⁴Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

⁴⁵Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

⁴⁶Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

There’s a t-shirt out right now with the phrase “Carolina Girls Wear Flip Flops and Pearls.” My daughter Emily-Catherine wears the shirt all the time and the Lord used that shirt to bring to my attention some things about myself. Every time I see the shirt He says to me…”You “just think” you have need of so many things, when it boils down to it…the pearl you need is the scripture. The thing you need for daily fulfillment is to dig and find the pearl for the day.” He began to show me I need to train my mind to think “This Carolina Girl”…loves her flip flops, loves her things…but the thing I love the most…I desire the most….is that pearl (His Word.) Not only do I need it, but it is that treasure that he created for me to find. For true joy and fulfillment I have to have it.

We’re spoiled aren’t we? Have you needed Him today enough to dig for a scripture to meet a need that you had. Think about the pearl for a minute; it’s a hidden treasure that someone has to work to find. Somebody had to dig for it, sweat for it, sacrifice time or energy for it. Somebody had to suffer disappointment for it opening many oyster shells that were empty before they found the treasure. Sometimes we’re just going to have to dig to find just the right word for us for that moment, for that day, for that need. It takes effort. Sometimes we have to wait. Some pearls are imitations…we don’t guard those or protect them like the real pearl. My time with the Lord…priceless and I have to train myself to guard that treasure hunt, to value it, to protect it from all those imitations that want to steal my time.

Read through the verses in Mathew again, Think about the priceless pearl. The costly one, the jewel …the one worked for. “Do you own a strand of real pearls?” A necklace or maybe a pair of earrings…think about the woman who received her pearls as a wedding gift from her husband 40 years ago, a priceless treasure to appreciate. Who wants a strand of real pearls? We all do…we desire to have that thing that is precious and valuable. Worth the wait.

Well guess what?! He puts a REAL pearl in His Word for us everyday and He’s waiting on us to desire it …to dig for it. He wants to the pleasure of watching you find it and treasure it. He desires to give it you. Some of us will never have an earthly strand of pearls, but in His word, there’s a strand waiting just for you.

The man in Mathew joyfully sold all he had for the pearl; it was worth that

much to him.

Theres this little conference Im praying to attend this summer for womens ministry leaders, writers and speakers called She Speaks....and in the same way we are to find the "Pearl" in His word...I'm praying to find the "Pearls" at She Speaks.....Ann at Holy Experience is giving a scholarship to She Speaks and I''m praying to win the opportunity to win and be able to attend. You help me pray, in Ann's words "The She Speaks Conference is about women connecting the hearts of women to the heart of our Father God and that your heart is to serve Him and His daughters as He Leads."

Ok, so our family is slightly broken...Emily is on crutches from her knee surgery and Kyle took the senior adults to Ridgecrest and came back on a cane. His back went out and our seniors had to "Carry" him home. The stories of Mr. Tindall taking him down and carrying Mrs. Dot's luggage are flying... Pray for me...running these two to their doctors appointments and physical therapy are starting to get to me....

Last weekend was Prom for Bluffton High School and I must say the best I have ever attended (I've counted, I've attended at least 10 Proms). As tradition holds...we take the picture of the some of the teachers who attend the prom.....and as I was looking over the picture thought to myself..."I am so blessed with the people I work with...they make coming to work a blast."

The thought then came to mind....these ladies are the Real Prom Queens...

Ok... so I went on the senior trip with 62 seniors this past weekend and my prize is this picture with Minnie Mouse...not too sure who that other guy is (just kidding) but boy...I love Minnie. My goal was to get a picture with her and whalaa!

Great trip...love my kids...no one went to jail, no one was injured, we didn't loose anyone..( a few kids snuck off...big surprise... and got tattoos but they were18 and there's nothing we can do about that) overall a great trip...we went to Wet N Wild, Busch Gardens, Magic Kingdom for Grad Night, Islands of Adventure or Universal...jam packed weekend with about 10-12 hours of sleep... Exhausting but so much fun, our kids were great!

Disney does an awesome job with Grad Night...the kids loved it...so did the adults and they really take care of the chaperone's...so if you're ever considering taking kids...Do!

I’m a Godly Gal Y’all! I just Love Melissa Mashburn over at Mels World. Her website and ministry have been an increbdible blessing to me and to so many other women across the country the last couple of years…I am so excited to be there this week as a part of her Godly Gals Series…

Flip flops and pearls are a necessity for every CArolina Girl! Its almost our uniform here in the Low Country of South Carolina…its standard dress for a girl to wear a great pair of jeans…a t-shirt…her pearls…and flip flops…

Well…Last summer that theme began to pop up everywhere …They were putting the phrase “Carolina Girls Wear Flip Flops and Pearls” on everything you can imagina…hats and shirts and tote bags and bumper stickers all over NOrth and South CArolina…The phrase became a huge money maker and everybody who was anybody had the t-shirt in the cutest colors you’’ve ever seen.

Well, the more I saw the phrase the more the Lord began to speak to my heart saying to me “You know I talk about Pearls in the Bible” Then he brought to mind the verses in Mathew that spoke about a specific Pearl and how the man in the verses was willing to give up everything he had for it. He presented me with a challenge that I shared with my Wednesday Night Ladies Ministry at Pine Level…then as a treat…I was able to give each Lady a new pair of flip-flops with a pearl imbellishment.

A Little Spring Cleaning

Don't you just love the Spring Time? I love the refreshing and renewing thoughts of Spring Break...staying home, raising the windows and cleaning house as the breeze blows through. That's exactly how I felt when I looked at my new blog design by Mary Hess, refreshed and renewed. I really loved the colors of my original blog and was pretty attached to it as I was self taught and put the whole mess together, it was cluttered and a little dark, but i loved it. Kinda how I feel through the winter months. So with a fresh twist and a breath of fresh air Mary captured my heart and gave my blog a spring cleaning. A new motivation for writing too, I've been in a bit of a rut....a pause.....a quiet place...waiting on whatever it was that would push me out of the winter and into spring... Girls, if a new blog design won't do it...I don't know what will. Maybe a new pair of sandals... Thanks a bunch Mary, I love it.

Ok, so my son made me proud yesterday! I have to share this.
This week was spirit week at our school... basketball games and wrestling matches against the RIVAL Hilton Head, dress up days, pep rally, the works. The last game of the pep rally was American Idol so kids from each grade were chosen to sing...My son, a freshman gets chosen, then says..."Ok ya'll today is my big sisters birthday, so lets all sing Happy Birthday to Emily.." The entire school proceeds to sing! Too cute...What a memory....I guess they do like each other sometimes.

A little background...Emily Catherine travels with the varsity team and I had to travel with my sons who are on the JV and middle school teams, we were going to be separated for the weekend (Columbia and Summerville, SC). We tend to do everything together....a little scary at times. Anyway, she had to leave in the middle of the school day and left this note in my car...

Wow, These are my mothers grandchildren. The three oldest are my children (Emily-Catherine will be 17 on the 27th, Kyle will be 15 Sunday and Alex is 13)...I am the mother of three teenagers. Scary, in my mind I'm still 17. They let me raise these children.....funny, and I drive a mini-van... sad...just kidding, love every minute. The next oldest would be Meredith, then Mary-Marshall and then Pace...and last but not least is....Anna-Claire.

Funny things about double names in the South. I love them! We have three in the family.

Seven grandchildren for my mom (she's only 55), I guess this means I'm getting old(not)....I'll be 40 in June. This was my favorite picture from christmas, practically had to laso Pace down to get a shot of all the kids together.

Richards work takes him out of town frequently and their children are in Alabama....well, we fell in love with them just in time for them to move back to Alabama. Jesus and Women...Be Some Kind of Woman in 2010

What’s Missing, Who’s Missing This New Year?
Some of my favorite stories in the bible come from verses that talk about “some women…” Jesus had a special place in his heart for women, they were always a priority to Him. Many times the women were unnamed like the woman at the well, or the woman with the issue of blood, some women had been cured, some women were watching, some women were young like Mary and some were old like Sarah, some women sat at the foot of the cross, some women went to the tomb, some women Jesus spoke to, some women traveled with Jesus. Some women were innocent like Elizabeth and other women were rough around the edges like Rahab. Personality, social status, ability didn’t matter to Him, He loved women.
I love it…some women were always with Jesus. Some women hid, Some women sat at His feet…
I want to be “some woman.” Don’t you.
The most incredible thing about Jesus and how He ministered to the women of the bible was that he simply did it. He ministered to women and treated each one as a person the same way He sees each woman today. This New Year Season give yourself and your family the greatest gift ever and know that Jesus loves you Just As You Are… Give Him a complete packeage!
Now, ask yourself What’sMissing? or Who’s Missing? An empty gift has no purpose.
No one likes an empty gift including Jesus. I can imagine giving my children an empty box for Christmas. Be a confident women who knows her place in Jesus, be full of joy and full of the Holy Spirit, ready to give and serve.
As we approach this New Year, Will You Be “Some Woman…?”

Well, the questions have started...why are you and Emily in Rock Hill and Kyle and the boys in North Myrtle Beach...simple, it works for us. For years we alternated where we spent Thanksgiving, we discussed, we voted, we argued at times, took turns etc...Ministry life...moving away from home settled it for us.

We both love all the family on both sides but it just makes sense for us to split and everybody understands. Kyles family(a huge family) who is precious to me meets basically one time a year at the beach house in North Myrtle Beach and my small family is in Rock Hill. Seven years of ministry life takes us hours away from home and I haven't been home since June so...for Thanksgiving I go home to Rock Hill...spend priceless time with my parents, sisters, nieces and nephew and especially time with my grandfather since my grandmother passed away in June. Kyle and the boys spend time at the beach with his parents, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins etc...the women shop and the men play cards and golf thursday, friday and saturday.
So...no need to worry, we're miles apart for a few days...absence makes our hearts grow fonder....and the kids aren't fighting in the car.

Frances Dickard Morrow

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Frances Dickard Morrow, 80, of 2165 Ridgecrest Road, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009, at her home.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Revs. Tom Tucker and Kyle Waddell officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park on Hollis Lakes Road.
A native of Pelzer, S.C., Mrs. Morrow was a daughter of the late Charlie Robert Dickard and the late Irene Johnson Dickard. She graduated from Parker High School in Greenville, S.C., was formerly employed with the Rock Hill School District and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Although she will be missed, her family has confidence that they will see her again. She loved the Church and lived the life of the Titus 2 Woman. Serving as a pastor's wife for over 50 years, she lived a life of faithful service to her Lord and Savior to the end. She was the caretaker of her family and her own parents. Just as the Proverbs 31 woman, Her Children ARE Rising Up And Calling Her Blessed.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, the Rev. Calvin W. Morrow; her son, David Wesley Morrow and his wife, Vivian, of Morristown, Tenn.; her daughters, Janie Morrow Hatchell and her husband, Randy, and Ann Morrow Clark and her husband, Wayne, all of Rock Hill; six grandchildren, Amy Hatchell Waddell, Charlie Morrow, Lori Hatchell Howey, Wes Clark, Maryanne Hatchell and Zack Clark; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 803 N Jones Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
Condolences may be made at www.greenefuneralhome.net.

Thank you all so much for all the cards, emails, visits, meals, flowers, etc...We have the best friends in the world.

Frances Morrow by Eleece Parker

My grandmother died this week. I'll write more about all of this when I've had the chance to process it all. A dear friend Eleece Parker wrote this and brought it to the home today and I'd like to share it.

It was my honor to meet Mrs Morrow,

She was a blessing to get to know;

I learned so much from her patience,

Through her, God’s glory did show.

She talked of her family and friends,

OH! The joy that was brought to her face;

To be sick should bring bitter and sadness,

But for her this wasn’t the case.

She was always filled with great hope,

And talked of the days gone by;

We prayed God would heal her body,

But never once did she ask God why.

Her faith was strong and secure,

She made sure that I too believed;

She asked God to save the lost,

That they also God’s Son would receive.

Although this fine lady is gone now,

She will always be close in our heart;

Her memories live on through our actions,

In our lives she has played a big part.

As a Titus 2 woman she lived,

To be self-controlled and pure;

She taught what is good, and to love,

Set the example to others for sure.

She spoke with wisdom; she was full of grace;

She feared the Lord, gave Him praise;

A wife of noble character, she served with much love;

Gave her all to the family she raised.

Her children call her blessed, her beauty runs deep,

Compassion simply flowed from within;

She gave of her best to the Master;

Concerned for lost souls to win.

With joy we know she’s in Heaven,

She has fought the good fight all the way.

Well done good and faithful servant;

Is something she heard God say.

1.) How long have you been in the SBC?

All my life and then some. Calvin Morrow is my grandfather, an SBC pastor for over 40 years, (recently named Pastor Emeritus of Calvary Baptist in Rock Hill, SC by my home Pastor Tom Tucker) so I guess I’ve lived it. I remember traveling with my grandparents and several other pastor families to the SBC Conventions during my childhood and teen years, camp meetings on the sawdust floors, revival pastors staying in our home and playing barbie dolls with preachers like Percy Ray.

What is your current role in the SBC? Currently I am a pastors wife, my high school sweetheart and husband Kyle is the Pastor of an SBC Church in the Low Country of South Carolina near the Beaufort/HIlton Head area…(no jokes about suffering for Jesus down here) I’m a Carolina Beach Girl.

2.)What do you love most about the SBC?

I LOVE the Savior we serve, I LOVE the “Church” we serve…the people, the Pastors, the Pastors Wives, the Missionaries we send, the Missions Involvment, the stand on the Word, I LOVE to see people “Get It”, I love to see women changed and grow in the freedom of Christ. I love to see young people come alive in Christ and seek change.

3. What one area of the SBC would I like to become stronger/healthier?

Of course I would love to see more souls saved, homes and marriages stronger/healthier but an SBC “entity”that I would like to see strengthened would be the Local Associations and more Cooperative Program dollars sent straight to the mission field. I guess thats more than one.

4. Historically, Who is my favorite Southern Baptist?

In my small world I’d say Calvin and Frances Morrow..my grandparents…I’ve watched a lifetime of faithful service to the end. On a grander scale…I’d have to say I have few heros…the grace of Adrian Rogers and Junior Hill, the boldness of Billy Graham and Ergun Caner, the sacrifice of Lottie Moon, my current favorite teaching preacher is David Allen, I could go on and on...

What to do when you're on ...Social Networking Overload

Ok, I have to admit I have a problem. I am addicted to my laptop and social networking. I am currently seeking help. I'll be adding to this post as soon as I join another site...funny, huh. My Blog,my newest favorite is Flock, Facebook, twitter, Linkedin...got over myspace a while back, tweet deck(which I love because now I can sink all of my messages, upsdates etc....) It's getting a lttle like junk mail and I have to regroup, pray about some of these things and eliminate the unneccessary...but which one....I love them all...I have a husband and children, a home, a ministry, personal and group bible study responsibilities, I need to read for pleasure,not to mention I do have a job....I'm a teacher...I need to grade papers.

I'm addicted to finding the most recent articles on the Watchbloggers!!!!!!HELP. Oh and guess what I just prayed about and committed to being a contributor to SBC Voices....which I love and am sooooooo excited about, more to come on that a little later.

Well, whats a woman to do.....keep on burning the midnight oil.

New Email Application

Wow, do i love this new email feature for blogger. I guess you can tell I have been away for Spring Break. Rest was needed, I think I did 100 loads of laundry though, peace and quiet, then laundry, bible study...then on to Rock Hill for the family visit. Wow, then the trip to IKEA You must find your way to Charlotte NC for the shopping experience of a Life time! You almost can't do it in a day. Its unexplainable, worth the trip. The money saved on gas and travel is worth it. A truly incredible shopping experience. Anything you would purchase at Walmart, K Mart, Target, Sears, Bestbuy...they have it for a major discounted price. And better quality. Go, I dare you!

A Brief Description of the purpose of these videos
This past weekend I attended the Beth Moore Living Proof Conference for Pastors Wives in Nashville. On the Living Proof Blog one week prior to the event Beth asked for Pastors Wives to respond to " As Pastors Wives we really wish you knew that ..."
Ministry Wives from all over the country responded and these videos are a compilation of those responses. Beths Team put together these videos and she based some of her teachings at the conference on our comments.
Some of the comments are "Quite shocking" at times, other comments are expected. All were posted without names, so confidentiality wasn't an issue which allowed freedom of expression without hesitation.

My husband has been away at the First Baptist Church Jacksonville Pastors Conference for 5 days, he just stopped by on his way back into town and brought me a new treasure. While at the conference one of the vendors was called Alabaster Life. You have to go to their website and view their products, hand mined, hand crafted Egyptian Alabaster, with Wrought Iron and Copper. Visit their website and read about the incredible story of "Alabaster Life" of two men on a short term mission trip to Egypt in 2007 which turned into a "life long missions endeavor" according to Ron and Dan, they are working to build christian businesses like Alabaster Life and sharing the Truth of Christ at the same time.

When Kyle went into the ministry full time and we took our first church and moved away from home to Kentucky I stuggled (to say the least for about 6 months). I begged the Lord to send me friends and He did. He sent me Jennifer, Christa and Crystal. Christa and Chris (our Minister of Music) were our best friends, Jennifer and JB(our drummer) and Crystal and Howard (most of you met their son, who we call "OUR Brad" who is a youth pastor and serving in Africa with the North American Mission Board.) We...I couldn't have survived without them. WE...our families... were inseparable.

If you've seen any news this week you've seen Kentucky is covered in ice, and yesterday Jennifer (38 yrs old) slipped on the ice driving to the school to pick up their son, landed upside down in a creek and died in the helicopter on the way to Lexington Ky. Our little town was an hour and a half from a real hospital.

My hope for this email is that you will all help us pray for JB, Whitney and Brandon. They are so much like our family in that they are all best friends. JB and Jennifer are best friends, they were middle school and high school sweethearts who married the month of high school graduation. Whitney and Brandon consider their mother their best friend. They were never apart and did everything together as a family. They need our prayers in a massive way. There wasn't a sweeter, most innocent, more tender hearted person on the planet who had a heart for women and children. She worked at the Lake Cumberland Home for Boys.

We got to speak with JB finally late last night and he is in shock, he was driving the hour and a half home from the hospital and said "Now I have to go to our home without her."

Please help us pray for them in the coming days.

2I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.

I guess I should do a little explaining about the boxing gloves...at least they are pink, and in love.... My husband always challenges us to find a life verse for each new year, so I have been praying, searching for just the right verse for the year. As many of you know I am always happy. Well, at least all you see is a happy person. Inside I cry for my family at home, my grandmothers health, missing my sisters and their children, and (a little shallow of me but I miss my house in Greer(mainly my bathroom and closet.) Well, we have been leasing our house for the year and a half that we've been here serving here in the Low Country of SC and now the people leasing it want to buy it. This little bit of information through me into a tailspin. I guess you could say satan through me into a tail spin this week. Its difficult to explain but the thought of selling my house almost "did me in" this week and in that heart struggle I came to find my 2009 Life Verses. These life verses become personal, this one symbolizes for me an internal battle for me to keep the ministry of Christ at the forefront of my mind. You pray for me....some days I really need it.
